Increased thermal comfort

Due to the importance of the sweating rate in thermoregulation, Smith and Havenith (2010) performed a sweat map whereby they were able to obtain detailed information on the sweating rates of the different regions of the body.

Skin moisture has been recognised as the most important determinant in thermal comfort (Havenith, 2002). Therefore, it makes sense to maximise ventilation in regions with the highest sweat production rates in order to improve sweat evaporation, minimise skin moisture and increase thermal comfort (Smith & Havenith, 2011).
